2 of 7: Andy Launched Too Early — And No One Cared

Meet Andy — a recent college grad with big ambitions.
Fueled by fresh ideas and a frustration with how most companies handle user feedback, Andy set out to change the game. This is the story of how he turned that mission into a real product — one insight, one iteration, and one mistake at a time.

Minimal doesn’t mean meaningless.

Burned from his first launch, Andy pulled back drastically. This time, he aimed to build the absolute bare minimum.

He skipped onboarding and data visualization and launched a form with a submit button. Users could type feedback, and it would be emailed to the admin. That’s it.

Launch #2 It took 3 weeks to build. It was clean. It was fast. And... it failed.

Feedback this time:

  • “Wait, what does this app do exactly?”

  • “I submitted something, but then what?”

  • “Why would I use this over Google Forms?”

What Went Wrong:

  1. No Unique Value: Users couldn’t tell what made Andy’s product different.

  2. No Feedback Loop: Users submitted something but got nothing back.

  3. No Incentive to Return: There was no ongoing engagement.

Lesson: Cutting too much means cutting away the soul of the product. MVP doesn’t mean broken or unfinished. It means focused.

Minimum Lovable Product (MLP) vs. MVP

  • MVP: Proves feasibility

  • MLP: Makes early adopters fall in love

Your MVP should be lovable enough that early users want to use it, talk about it, and give feedback.

Framework: Value Loop

  1. Trigger: What starts the experience?

  2. Action: What does the user do?

  3. Reward: What value do they get immediately?

  4. Investment: What makes them come back?

If your MVP doesn’t close this loop, it’s not ready.
